Real estate and property investment in Chattisgarh, India

 

 

Chattisgarh is a relatively new state of India that gained statehood on 1st November, 2000. Real estate and property investment activities are picking up steadily, particularly in and around the capital city - Raipur. Chattisgarh has a total land area of about 135,194 square kilometers, which makes it the 10th largest state in India.

The Government of Chattisgarh has undertaken the Chattisgarh - Vision 2010 project. IL&FS Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (IIDC) is acting as partner and advisor to the project. The state has impressive plans of constructing commercial and residential property by the year 2010. These include a capital complex, IT park, a township with a golf course and a five-star hotel. The Reliance group plans to construct commercial property at various locations of the state. Other nationally recognized real estate builders are planning to build residential real estate and property in Chattisgarh. The government created the Chattisgarh Housing Board to ensure the residential property needs of the state. The tourism potential of Chattisgark has also drawn attention of several hotel groups.

The state is putting emphasis on industrial developments including Information technology. Organisations such as Vedanta Group, BALCO, The Tata Power Company and others will make investments worth several crores in their related fields such as steel, aluminum and power generation. Steel Authority of India has already invested significant amount of money in buying real estate. Chattisgarh want to promote alternative forms of power generation. It wants to have Jatropha plantation to generate bio-fuel. Besides, the state already has the Bhilai steel plant, Borai industrial park, Sirgitti Growth Centre.
